1. Be a Freelancer or Work for a Company
To qualify for the Italy Digital Nomad Visa, you must be a freelancer or work remotely for a company as a highly qualified professional. In Italy, highly qualified professionals are those who possess any of the following:
- A tertiary-level higher education degree or equivalent qualification.
- At least three years of relevant professional experience or higher professional qualification attested by at least five years of experience.
- Compliance with the requirements for regulated professions in Italy.
2. Employment Verification
You need to prove your employment relationship through a valid work contract or a binding job offer. Additionally, you must have at least six months of prior experience in the field you will work in while in Italy.
3. Minimum Income Requirement
You must demonstrate an annual minimum income of at least €25,500. For remote workers, the salary must respect the minimum salary established by Italian law, which might be higher than €25,500.
4. Health Insurance and Accommodation
You must hold valid health insurance for medical treatment and hospitalization, and provide proof of accommodation in Italy for the duration of your visa (365 days).
5. Social Security Compliance
You must either be from a country with a bilateral Social Security agreement with Italy or comply with Italian Social Security rules. This might be required from your employer if you are applying as a remote worker.
6. Clean Criminal Record
Evidence of no criminal records is required. Italian employers must present proof of no criminal records related to immigration and illegal labor exploitation.
7. Additional Travel Requirements
If applying for a visa lasting less than 90 days, you may need to submit round-trip flight tickets. For visas longer than 90 days, one-way flight tickets to Italy may be required.
