To qualify for the Non-Lucrative Visa in Spain, applicants must meet the following criteria:
1. Fixed Monthly Income
Receive a fixed monthly amount from a permanent source of income, such as a trust fund or retirement pension. This cannot be a salary, as it could be misunderstood that you are required to work during your stay in Spain.
The income must be at least €2,400 per month (main applicant), plus €600 per month for each additional family member.
You can also show the disposal of savings for the total amount (€28,000 per year for the main applicant, plus €7,200 for each additional family member) at the time of application, in which case there is no need to prove a fixed monthly income.
2. Comprehensive Health Insurance
Ensure you obtain full coverage private health insurance. Foreigners can also access public healthcare in Spain. However, it operates on a contributive basis, meaning it’s funded by employers and self-employed individuals, regardless of their nationality.
Non-working foreigners, therefore, do not have access to public healthcare and must rely on private insurance.
3. Clean Criminal Record and Medical Certificate
Provide a police record and a medical certificate. If moving with a spouse, a marriage certificate, duly legalized or apostilled and sworn translated into Spanish, is required.
4. Proof of Sufficient Income
The Spanish Government requires evidence that you can support yourself financially. Usually, this is confirmed with a bank certificate that displays the account bank and a recent date. You must provide the following to show that you meet the Spain Non-lucrative visa financial requirements:
- Bank statements from the last 3-12 months depending on the Spanish Consulate
- Proof of funds held by the main visa applicant
5. Required Documentation
- Valid Passport: Ensure your passport is valid.
- Private Health Insurance: Obtain health insurance from a Spanish provider.
